With a handful of notable exceptions, the response to Trump from Dems in Congress remains weak, ineffective and too wed to politics-as-usual. But increasingly, Dem governors and mayors are speaking out with force and power.
Here are two strong examples from the past week from opposite ends of the country. First some key quotes from Boston Mayor Michelle Wu responding to a threatening letter from Attorney General Pam Bondi demanding more cooperation with the federal government’s harsh immigration policies.
And across the country on the west coast, we have California Governor Gavin Newsom and some key quotes from his speech announcing his state’s plan to respond aggressively to the Texas mid-decade extreme gerrymandering effort to protect the narrow GOP House majority.
And There’s More . . .
Here’s Maryland Governor Wes Moore refusing to send National Guard troops to help Trump occupy DC.
And one more, this time from the campaign trail. This is Graham Platner, an Army and Marine vet and the latest candidates to jump into the race to challenging Susan Collins in Maine.
Conclusion
Let’s hope that this kind of rhetoric backed by action becomes more widespread in the halls of Congress and on the 2026 campaign trail.
Yeah. A little early. I’d say after turn of the year. But now is a good time to donate especially to encourage first time candidates without a big donor network.
Thank you!! I love this. Now when do they need to say “Register!” “Vote” is it too early to tag that on to the end of all of these messages.
